the planet, plastics, & people

It started off as a cheap, durable material that revolutionized the production of goods. Today, plastic is one of the most widely used materials on the planet — found in everything from the packaging around our food to the fibers woven in our clothes.

But this convenience has come at a cost. Plastic pollution is now one of the most important environmental and social justice issues of our time. As plastics continue to harm ecosystems and wildlife, they are also silently harming us.

Plastics are pollutants at every stage of their life cycle—from the extraction of oil and natural gas used as raw materials, to the manufacturing process, to the release of chemical additives during product use, and finally to their disposal and breakdown in the environment.

We are exposed to plastics every single day, whether we realize it or not. Microplastics have been found in our drinking water, the food we eat, and even the air we breathe. According to WWF, studies suggests that the average person consumes about five grams of plastic each week. Traces of plastics have been found throughout the human body from our lung tissues & organs, breast-milk, and even our blood. Plastic has become part of our DNA.

This is no longer just an environmental crisis.
It is a human crisis.

the oil industry makes $600 Billion a year off the production of plastics alone.

According to UNEP, Microplastics have been found throughout the human body, including in the walls of arteries.

When we pollute the environment, we pollute ourselves.
